Terms of Use for Relationship Help Online

Please read the terms of use carefully. If you agree to the Terms of Use you may register and use the services and forums. If you do not wish to be bound by the Terms of Use, you cannot register for services on this website.

1. Acceptance of Terms of Use and Amendments
Each time you use or cause access to this web site, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use, and as amended from time to time with or without notice to you. In addition, if you are using a particular service on or through this web site, you will be subject to any rules or guidelines applicable to those services and they shall be incorporated by reference into these Terms of Use. Please see our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms of Use by reference.

Relationships Help Online is a service offered by Relationships Australia NSW.

2. Our Service
Our web site and services provided to you on and through our web site are on an "AS IS" basis. This means that you agree that the owners of this web site exclusively reserve the right and may, at any time and without notice and any liability to you, modify or discontinue this web site and its services or delete the data you provide, whether temporarily or permanently. We shall have no responsibility or liability for the timeliness, deletion, failure to store, inaccuracy, or improper delivery of any data or information.

3. Privacy Policy
Registration data and other personally identifiable information that we may collect is subject to the terms of our Privacy Policy.

4. Security and Confidentiality
4.1 Security: Relationship Help Online does its best to protect e-mail, chat and forum discussions from security breaches. We have a security certificate, which means we comply with the security requirements of that company.

4.2 Confidentiality: Counsellors use private offices, onsite, and are not observed by anyone else while in session with you. Counsellors may print and keep on your file a copy of the transcripts of sessions. All records are stored in accordance with our Privacy provisions and in the same manner as face-to-face counselling files. Identifying information is not stored with your records.

4.3 Limits to confidentiality: Relationships Australia NSW reserves the right to report to relevant authorities, such as the police or child protection authorities, situations where a client or associate of the client is judged to be at risk of self-harm, or of harming others, particularly if it the risk is to a child under 16 years of age. Counsellors are also obliged to report to police information obtained about the commission of a criminal act.

4.4 Communication of Information to Others: Information obtained from you may only be used for professional purposes and may only be communicated to persons legitimately concerned with the case within Relationships Australia NSW Email communications will not be forwarded to others without your consent.

4.5 Ethics & Professional Guidelines: Counsellors, in providing online services, shall adhere to the relevant professional code of ethics and to Relationships Australia NSW’s Code of Ethics and Code of Conduct.

4.6 Cancellation policy: You may cancel a session and request a full refund, or change a session, without incurring a cost, if you give us at least 24 hours notice. Technical difficulties should be reported to either your counsellor, or to our offices via email or the Relationship Help Online Helpline. These difficulties will be negotiated with you to ensure a fair outcome.

4.7 Complaints: We have a complaints procedure which you may use within a reasonable time frame from the date of the complaint. Please email or call our services direct, to make a complaint.

5. Your Responsibilities

5.1 Registration: In order to use this web site, you must register on our site, agree to provide truthful information when requested. When registering, you explicitly agree to Terms of Use.

5.2 Password: You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your password and shall be responsible for all uses via your registration and/or login, whether authorised or unauthorised by you. You agree to immediately notify us of any unauthorised use of your registration, user account or password.

5.3 Confidentiality of your data: You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of any data you download onto your computer. It is your responsibility to delete or keep safe emails and transcripts of online conversations. You should be aware that even deleted files can still be accessed.

5.4 Your Conduct: When using this online counselling service, you have responsibility for:

  • Keeping your appointment or advising us at least 24 hours before your appointment, if you have to cancel or change the appointment
  • Conducting your session in a way that will maximise your ability to benefit from it. (e.g. not be under the influence of drugs or alcohol)
  • Giving the counsellor relevant information in order for him/her to assist you
  • Behaving in a respectful manner while online

5.5. Your use of counsellor electronic communications. You explicitly agree not to forward email messages or other electronic communications from our counsellors to other persons, except in circumstances where this has been agreed in advance by your counsellor, and is done with the written consent of your counsellor. You may not copy and paste bits of text or use the counsellor’s advice out of context, or pass on the advice to a third party.

5.6. Your use of Forums. Relationship Help Online does not and cannot review all communications and/or materials posted on its forums and discussion groups, and, as such, are not responsible in any manner for the content of posted communications or materials. Relationship Help Online has the right to block or delete any communications or materials on our forums, discussion groups and services that may:

a. disclose private or personal information about another person, or be offensive, threatening, harassing, abusive, fraudulent, deceptive, or misleading, or constitute stalking.

b. violate the privacy and/or property rights of others.

c. interfere with the viewing or use by others of discussion groups, and services, or post or transmit any file containing any viruses or any contaminating or destructive code or features.

d. be requests for charity, petitions for signatures, chain letters, or communications or materials for any pyramid schemes, advertising, solicitations, or promotional communications or materials of any kind, or be used to harvest or collect information about other users of the forums, discussion groups, and services.

e. be deemed unacceptable for any reason. Relationship Help Online may take steps, if necessary, to investigate any violation of this Agreement, including the recording of any communications or materials in its forum, discussion groups, and services.
